House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) announced the first congressional hearing into the Minnesota fraud scandal and invited Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) and state Attorney General Keith Ellison to participate at a later date.

The first hearing, scheduled for Jan. 7, will include testimony from state Reps. Kristin Robbins, Walter Hudson, and Marion Rarick, all of whom are Republicans. Comer has invited Walz and Ellison to testify on Feb. 10.

Minnesota's fraud scandal brings reckoning for Tim Walz

On March 1, an immigrant from Senegal, apparently angry over the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran, donned a T-shirt that said “Property of Allah,” grabbed a Koran, a pistol, and a semi-automatic rifle, and headed toward a popular nightlife area in Austin, Texas. There, he shot and killed three people and wounded 14 others before police killed him. On March 12, an immigrant from Sierra Leone who had served years in prison for providing material support to ISIS took a rifle and, yelling “Allahu Akbar,” started shooting as he walked into an Army ROTC classroom at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. He killed one person and critically wounded two others before students jumped him and killed him.

Set aside for a moment the enormity of Iran’s clerical tyranny having murdered tens of thousands of unarmed citizens. Even then, thinking only of America’s national security interests, without considering the moral imperative to stop a historic massacre and punish the perpetrators, it is nevertheless imperative that President Donald Trump should intervene with the U.S. military.

In truth, he has already committed himself to doing so, to punishing the ayatollahs and helping Iranians liberate themselves from nearly half a century of tyranny. The question now is whether he will keep his word or will try to find a way to abandon it. The latter course, which seems less likely, would undermine the nation he leads and betray a people who are begging him to act.
