Title: An Expected Hope: How God’s Truth Brings Freedom, Now and in the Future

Summary:

“You don’t have to live the way you always lived.” That invitation sits at the centre of this episode on an expected hope, both for today and for the future.

It begins with God’s people in Babylon, carried away as captives and stirred up by false prophets promising what would never happen. Then a letter arrives with the truth: after 70 years, God will bring them home. Once they knew what God had actually said, the confusion lifted. They could settle, plant gardens and look forward with confidence.

The same pattern holds today. Romans sets out two possible ends, the wages of sin or the gift of eternal life, and Acts 2:38 shows how to receive that gift through repentance, baptism and the Holy Spirit. Stories of people healed and lives changed show what this hope can look like in practice, and the closing challenge is simple: put God’s promise to the test and see for yourself.

Key Points:
False hope made life harder for the captives in Babylon. The truth of God’s 70 year promise gave them peace and something real to look forward to.
Knowing what God has actually said makes it easy to recognise what is false, then and now.
Everyone faces one of two ends: the wages of sin, which is death, or the gift of God, which is eternal life.
Unlike the captives, nobody has to wait 70 years. Repentance, baptism and the Holy Spirit are available today.
God’s promise can be tested. The invitation is to act on Acts 2:38-39 and prove it personally.
