Title

What Manner of Persons Ought We to Be? Ready for the Day of the Lord

Summary

“What manner of persons ought we to be? Watchful and ready.”

That question from 2 Peter 3 sits at the centre of this episode, which works through the chapter verse by verse. Peter warns that scoffers will ask where the promise of Christ’s coming has gone, and that many will choose not to know. Just as the world of Noah’s day was given plenty of warning before the flood, the Bible says a day of judgment by fire is coming, and there is still a way out.

The episode explains why God has waited so long: He is patient, not wanting anyone to perish but all to come to repentance. Along the way it looks at Adam and Eve’s choice in the garden, Ezekiel’s picture of the last days and the call to trust God rather than ourselves.

It closes on hope rather than fear. Philippians 2 and Hebrews 12 show that God gives the strength to live a holy, obedient life, so we can keep running with patience and not lose heart.

Key Points
In 2 Peter 3, scoffers ask where the promise of Christ’s return has gone, and the Bible describes people who are willingly ignorant of God’s warnings.
Noah’s generation had plenty of warning before the flood. The earth once judged by water is now reserved for fire, and the way of escape is still open.
God’s delay is not slowness. One day is as a thousand years to Him, and He waits because He wants everyone to come to repentance.
Anyone hearing the message for the first time is invited to be born again of water and the Spirit, through baptism and receiving the Holy Spirit.
Working out salvation with fear and trembling means awe and serious care, not timidity. God supplies the strength to live a holy life and run the race with patience.

“What manner of persons ought we to be? Watchful and ready.” 2 Peter 3 warns of scoffers in the last days who ask where the promise of Christ’s coming has gone. This episode walks through the chapter, from the warning given in Noah’s day to the coming day of the Lord, and explains why God is patient: He wants everyone to come to repentance. It looks at trusting God instead of ourselves, the choice Adam and Eve faced, and what it means to work out our salvation with awe rather than fear. Whether your faith is new or long-standing, this is an encouraging call to live a holy life, stay ready and run the race with patience.
