Libya update

View descriptionShare
Hundreds of Russian military mercenaries in Libya have reportedly been evacuated after retreating from fighting on the capital's front lines. This has been announced by the forces backing the UN-supported Government of National Accord. The claim comes after a series of setbacks for eastern-based military commander Khalifa Haftar's year-long offensive to seize Tripoli. The departure of the mercenaries is believed to be another blow to Haftar's Libyan National Army and his foreign allies.

For more on what these latest developments mean for Libya's conflict, Channel Africa’s Khumbelo Munzhelele spoke to Noufal Abboud, executive director of the Nordic Center for Conflict Transformation.
