In a putrid, overcrowded camp in northern Syria there are small Australian children, born into the former so-called Islamic State, sleeping in a squalid tent.

After the fall of the caliphate, countries around the world are facing a similar quandary: what to do with families who left their native countries for Syria years ago and are now desperate to return?

While it seem there’s little political appetite to assist adults, the Australian children and teens are another story.

What’s in store for the ‘cubs of the Caliphate’ if they return home?
