A delegation from UNESCO and the International Union for Conservation of Nature will inspect the Great Barrier Reef on Monday to decide if its World Heritage status will be downgraded due to damage caused by global warming.

Now, as the delegation prepare to make their way here, reports have emerged of a significant coral bleaching event on the reef between Townsville and the Whitsundays.
