The Coyotes jumped out to an early 9-0 advantage in the first quarter and led by six after one period, but the Blue Devils took control over the final 24 minutes of basketball to win 48-34, and claim a second straight IAC crown.

Both teams scored in the first, and Newfield took a 3-1 lead with a two-run fourth. But Marathon’s offense exploded in the fifth, highlighted by Blake Birdsall’s bases-clearing, three-RBI triple, lifting the Olympians to a 7-4 win.

The Black Knights battled back, forced costly turnovers in the final minute, and took the lead late to secure a 58-56 win, claiming their first sectional title since 1999
