You could easily be forgiven for thinking the state of climate policy was a bit dire in Australia after weeks and months of speculation over the Coalition's eventual decision to dump net-zero targets. Despite all that, it appears emissions will continue to go down as state and territory Liberal parties have reaffirmed their support to meet net-zero in coming decades. Experts say the world is moving in the same direction to a low-emissions future with the decision of the federal Coalition only opening up opportunities for Labor and the crossbench to tear them to shreds.
