Local news for Friday 5 June 2026

This weekend Lee Lloyd will attempt the UK Three Peaks Challenge.

He will be climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, all within 24 hours.

This is all in memory of Kevan Birkett and Melissa Tickner, raising funds for March for Men with Kev and Sheldon’s Shooting Stars.

Local man takes on the UK Three Peaks Challenge in memory of his friends

The first week of June was national volunteers week and local family support organisation Home Start Butser, ran a lunch on Thursday 4 June as a thank you

Their 86 volunteers supported 333 families in the area and 459 children, in the last year .

Mike Waddington reports from the event, speaking to volunteers (who tell us what they've enjoyed), Home Start's Chair, Linda Bazant, and Manager Nicola Winter.

They are always looking for more volunteers - especially men - and some Trustees too. 

The next training course for volunteers starts in September.

Emily from solicitors KJ Smith,  who sponsored the lunch, talks about their partnership with Home Start Butser.
