The Annual Edward Thomas Poetry Festival took place over  three days from 27 Februray to 1 March.

Mike Waddington speaks to the organiser Jeremy Mitchell and poets Damien Kelly-Basher (Hampshire's Poet Laureate), Jess Mookherjee, Timothy Adès, and Nia Broomhall (poet in Residence at Painshill Place.)

One of the poets said his 'ears were drunk' with the words and the audience agreed.

'My ears are drunk' - Edward Thomas Festival delights

This month, we're due for a spooky 'Occultation' event! Around midnight on the 28th, a few days before all manner of creepy entities emerge to petrify the ‘Petersphere’ at Halloween, there's an occultation of the lovely Pleiades star cluster by the Moon!

Well, to be honest, ‘occultation’ doesn’t infer anything sinister or supernatural. All it means for stargazers is that one object in space temporarily hides another object as seen from Earth.

The fire was a huge blow to the cafe in One Tree Books but they are back strong.

Alma, the owner, talks about what they deliver and why she is in the business with optimism despite juggling the finances in the competitive world of Petersfield coffee and has hopes to expand.

They have evening events too and we hear from local Scientist Fabio Crepaldi about the 'whys' of alchohol.

Alma talks about being an entrepreneur and also about her recent enagagement.

Ginger's bounces back from the Lavant Street Fire

Bloodhounds have such an extraordinary nose, that they can distinguish - and track - the scent of individual human beings. 

The Wessex Bloodhounds hunt “the clean boot” - which means that a pack of hounds hunt the scent of human runners, who set off with 20 minutes’ head start across the fields. The hounds hunt or track the runners, and the riders follow the hounds. It the hue and cry of a traditional hunt, but none of the controversy.

Senior Master, Sam Heighes (daughter of the highly respected bloodhound  expert, Jeremy Whaley) and Jack Jennings, Master and Huntsman discuss the pack with Dogs with Jobs presenter, Kate Fairweather, and introduce star bloodhound, Romance.

At a training meet in South Harting the next day, we witness the gentle start to the season.  Known as “tub” hunts because everyone’s a little tubby from the summer holidays, these training meets feature short hunts and are very relaxed. The riders, horses, hounds and the human quarries start to get their fitness up in readiness for the proper season ahead.
