Local news for Friday 6th February

This month Damian Hinds MP highlights the contribution made to our local economy by small business and some of the challenges they face. He also reflects on the linked matter of rising youth unemployment, local government reorganisation and the possible loss of a Hampshire police service. Finally, he mentions how NHS teams are educating local schoolchildren on mental health matters.

Petersfield's MP shares his constituency view

We all receive toiletries in the festive period that we know we will never use.

Rather than popping them away in a cupboard, why not take them to Mackarness & Lunt in the High Street. They are collecting throughout the year in aid of Domestic Abuse. All will be delivered to a refuge in Hampshire.

Many that flee from their homes literally just grab a few essentials, so your help will be gratefully received. Dee Cann from Mackarness & Lunt tells us more.

On Saturday evening, 7 March at 6:30pm, Petersfield Salvation Army celebrate their 140 years in the town with a special concert of several brass bands, attended by their national Leader, Commissioner Paul Main (who will also lead their regular Sunday Worship the following day at 11.00 am.)

One of the songs they will perform at the concert is Light Fingered Freddie, from a musical, not dissimilar to Guys and Dolls.

Andrew Clark is a trombone player and semi-professional musician and will sing the song on the night.

Mike Waddington attended the band's first practice session (the bands are rehearsing separately) and speaks to Andrew about the song and the ideas behind it.

He says there are other surprises up their sleeves!

Tickets for the concert at Petersfield Methodist Church are now on sale: please call 01730 265971.
