The NHS says there may be better ways of providing services from one ward instead of two at Petersfield Hospital.

Wendy Rees, Managing Director of the Portsmouth and South East Hants division of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, talks to Mike Waddington about what is happening.

Wendy explains what is being suggested and why, and said there will be no redundancies in any proposals, and there will be a full consultation in four to six weeks time. 

More than 3,000 people have expressed concern in a petition headed 'Save Rowan Ward' and Wendy apologised for the distress the news may have caused and repeated no decision has yet been taken and that people need to hear the case for consideration, when demand in Petersfield for rehabilitation beds (where people are prepared for going home following a stay at Queen Alexandra Hospital) is falling.

Full Consultation in four to six weeks time about changes at Petersfield Hospital

There’s a real buzz inside Petersfield Festival Hall as preparations get underway for this year’s Petersfield Music Festival - and the Shine Radio P pod team went along to soak up the atmosphere.

This year is particularly special, as the festival celebrates its 125th anniversary, marking more than a century of bringing live music to audiences in the town.

On location during the busy set-up, presenters Julie Butler and Laura Sheppard hear the sounds of piano tuning and rehearsals as they chat to some of the people behind the event. They meet Festival Chair Pam Buckley, explore the festival’s long history with Philip Young, speak to members of the St Cat’s Ensemble, and catch up with BBC presenter and piano soloist Keelan Carew ahead of his performance.

From backstage preparations to reflections on the festival’s remarkable legacy, this Ppod offers a lively snapshot of one of Petersfield’s most cherished cultural traditions.

Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery is preparing for its Summer exhibition which starts on 29 April.

It’s a double feature: Flora Twort: Draw from Life, an exhibition of her rarely-seen early drawings, and the centenary display of Sir Stanley Spencer’s painting The Poultry Market, Petersfield. This will be the first time this painting has been shown in Petersfield, the town that inspired it. 

Head of Collections and Exhibitions at the Museum and Art Gallery, Louise Weller spoke to Mike Waddington about this forthcoming exhibition, the wider project to digitise Flora Twort's work (having won a grant for this) as well as Stanley Spencer's time in Petersfield after the first world war when he was developing his very distinctive style

Later in the year the South Downs Open, the competition about what the South Downs inspire, will open and details are available on the Museum's website.

New season at the Museum brings world famous painting to Petersfield

Andy Catto, from Petersfield, makes the trip up to London every Monday as he has been a guide at St Paul's Cathedral for the last two years or so.

On Wednesday 18 March he spoke at two meetings here - the U3A and the Area Historical Society - about St Paul's. 

He told us his talks go further than the tour with photos and stories about the Cathedral and its history.

He spoke to Mike Waddington about his experiences, about Royal Peculiars and where the phrase 'robbing Peter to pay Paul' comes from.
