Damian Hinds MP update for March

Julie and Mike meet participants, organisers and members of Kev's family as the fourth annual march for men takes place in Petersfield.

The event aims to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer and the PSA tests that can help to identify men who might be vulnerable to it.

Prostate cancer facts

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. More than 64,000 men are diagnosed every year.

Every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer. More than 12,000 lives lost each year.

Incredible to think that 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed in their lifetime.

Despite this, the NHS has not yet agreed to provide universal PSA testing. Charities like Prostate Cancer UK and PCaSO have stepped in to help save lives. Funds from this event go to these organisations and Petersfield's Rosemary Foundation.

‘News from Number 18’ is a joint newsletter advertising activities from Age Concern Petersfield and the Winton House Centre and is out now.

Age Concern, amongst many other things, has a fish and chips social on Friday 2 October and a talk on bone health coming up -  a small fee for both.

Sheridan Rocher tells Mike Waddington why bone health is "a gift to your future self."

Fish, chips, bone health and more from Age Concern Petersfield

Sarah Walsh and Geoff Wotton visited a school in Westmoreland, Jamaica a year ago and were moved to raise money to send a pallet of donated musical instruments for the children. 

A big team helped them sort the instruments and raise funds. They had helpers for other things too, supplying footballs and IT equipment.

Sarah and Geoff talk to Mike Waddington about the project and why the did it; arranging transport for the pallet to go from Petersfield to Harwich and then, after a five week journey by sea to Montego Bay, a hired van delivered the guitars, keyboards and drums to the school. 

Would they do it again? yes.
