This years’ Big Dig ends this weekend,18 and 19 July, which is also the national Festival of Archaeology to encourage more people to dig into the past.

People are invited to attend at High Meadow between 11am and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday to see Liss Archeology at work.

Anne Brooks from Liss Archeology and Petersfield Area Historical Society, speaks to Mike Waddington about their latest finds at High Meadow and in a garden on Borough Hill.

Christabel Thomas explains why she volunteers on the Information Stand here and travels from the New Forest to do so.

Local news for Tuesday 14th July

Embracing Age, the Christian befriending charity, is once again appealing for people to send cards to residents in care homes who may not have relatives or visitors or be able to participate in group activities.

Zoe Jones, who works across East Hampshire for the befriending charity, talks to Mike Waddington about the project and how simple messages on cards help.

Zoe also speaks about what befriending involves and working with hundreds of care homes in East Hampshire. 

It goes on to the end of September so would also be something returning schools might want to be involved in, about their own holiday memories.

Embracing Age match you up to a care home and say who the cards can be posted to.
