'We're just flat out scared for the future': Extinction Rebellion member speaks up

View descriptionShare

Extinction Rebellion member Julian Bowran is one of six people facing charges after spraying chalk on Dumas House and gluing themselves to the pavement in protest to the fossil fuel industry.

"We're just flat out scared that our governments continue to open up fossil fuel projects, continuing to pay huge amounts of public money to fossil fuel corporations who are immensely wealthy and overseas owned, that are doing nothing but damaging the environment and making the future look terrible for our grandchildren," Mr Bowran told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live.

Mr Bowran explained to Oly that they've tried all the 'usual avenues' such as writing letters and petitions however, the club felt more drastic action was needed to draw everyone's attention.

"But does it look terrible for your grand kids that you'll turn around and say I got arrested for graffiti and gluing ourselves to the door of Dumas House?" Oly asked Mr Bowran.

"Drastic action is important here and we hope our grandchildren understand the measures we took because we were desperate," Mr Bowran responded.
