The Queensland Government has announced that pharmacists in the northern part of the state will be able to prescribe and treat patients towards the end of 2023.

President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia WA Branch, Andrew Ngeow told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that he highly welcomes the program in WA.

"They just don't have enough GP's to service the public, and whilst this is done in Queensland, Western Australia is the worst state for that. So we need to do something different," he told Oly.

The design of the program will allow pharmacists to be utilised as an accessible health care network to take pressure off the hospital system and GP network. 

"It won't be absolutely everything but it is the things that will take the pressure off GP's."
