In an effort to ease Australia's skill shortage crisis, the Albanese Government has announced that pensioners will be able to earn an extra $4000 each financial year through a one-off income credit, without losing their benefits. 

The policy change is expected to cost the government around $55 million.

Ian Henschke, Chief advocate of National Seniors Australia told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that it is a positive step towards what Australia needs to achieve in addressing the skills shortage crisis.

"We did a survey and we found that 20% of pensioners said that they were willing to go back to work but the biggest stumbling blocks in order was, ageism, Centrelink and the way that they lose their  pension money if they work beyond a certain point," he told Oly. 

"What has been announced today is part of the solution as you will not lose your concession card no matter you earn for the next two years."
