Bandyup Women's Prison will be the first prison to undertake a 6 month trial on the new smoking ban in WA's prisons.
Commissioner of Corrective Services WA, Mike Reynolds told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that this particular prison was chosen due to it's diverse demographic and health needs.
"We believe that it's the best place to undertake the trial and look to implement it in a safe and planned manner," he told Oly.
"I want to take a cautious approach and see what we can learn from Bandyup - we want to make sure that it fits the WA experience."
