It's becoming a daily occurrence that more flights continue to be cancelled or delayed at the very last moment, with airlines now blaming these incidents on pilot fatigue and crew limitations.

Captain Tony Lucas, President of the Australian and International Pilots Association told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that these disruptions and delays are being taken seriously, bringing it down to two main reasons why they continue to happen.

"The day to day part of the job is that aviation is incredibly complex. It does not take much for that to cause a disruption. One or two flights disrupting isn't a big deal but when we see some systematic issues with ground staff, shortages of staff etc. that means we have multiple flights operating off schedule," he told Oly.

"It makes my flight and then the next flight late. It's a domino effect, it domino's throughout the entire day. And some of these delays take 24 hours to recover." 

Oly further asked what Captain Lucas' perspective is on 'pilot fatigue,' and what that translates to.

"12 hours is our limit for us in a day. It depends on where we are going and where we've come from. Ultimately, if we have these delays, it causes us to run up against those minutes."
