Welcome to your Paulding County News podcast. I'm Melissa Carter, along with Doug Harding. A frustrated father's complaints about his child's homework spiral into a surprising situation you are not going to believe. Plus, find out why one local restaurant is stirring up controversy and leaving patrons with a bad taste. But first, let's take a look at our top stories. Tomorrow is the much anticipated solar eclipse in Paulding County. Should see at least 80% coverage, weather permitting. The eclipse is expected to be visible starting at 145 in the afternoon, with peak coverage at about 304. If we can see the eclipse, it's essential to ensure safe viewing practices. Doug's going to tell you about the weather here in a second. NASA recommends crafting a pinhole projector using a cereal box that's old school. For a simpler approach, grab a toilet paper tube, cardstock, and foil and make a solar viewer reminiscent of childhood projects. The Planetary Society suggests using just two pieces of paper and a pushpin for a straightforward viewing method. You can find all these online, and if you prefer a hands on approach, literally, you can just create pinholes with your fingers to form images of the sun on the ground. Now all this is really creative and something to do with your kids, but for those who prefer pre-made options like me, just consult reputable vendors. Recommended by the American Astronomical Society for officially regulated solar viewing glasses. Don't use your regular sunglasses. You have to have special glasses to look at the sun. This from the Ledger Inquirer.

I wonder how many people are actually going to try to look at it without any sort of vision.

Oh, don't tell me what to do. I can look at the sun. It's not going to make me blind. Well, you're going to have damage to your eyes if you try to look at the sun directly. It's like things we learned when we were five years old.

You're gonna look at the eclipse, go partially blind, and start running into things all the time. Due to recent severe weather, the Paulding County Emergency Management Agency wants you to be prepared. Officials urge you to know how your community sends warnings so some have outdoor sirens, while others depend on media and smartphones to alert residents to severe storms. In a move aimed at enhancing safety measures. Major freight railroads will now be required to maintain two person crews on most routes, including through Paulding County, as per a new federal rule finalized by the Transportation Department's Federal Railroad Administration. Now, this rule in the works for the past two years marks a significant step in railroad safety, especially in the wake of the fiery February 2023 derailment in eastern Ohio, which intensified scrutiny on rail safety protocols. Now, rail unions have long advocated for two person crews, citing safety concerns, particularly as trains have grown longer over time. However, railroads have argued that crew size should be determined through contract negotiations rather than regulatory mandates. Sorry for my little laughter there, but I I'm glad that they have two people crews. The move comes amidst ongoing debates in Congress over railroad safety legislation. This from the Christian Index.

Here's your weather. Partly cloudy this afternoon. We're going to have a high in Dallas and Hiram of 73. Lows in the upper 50s. Now for the eclipse tomorrow. Showers in the morning, then cloudy skies for the afternoon. Oh, boy. We're gonna have highs in Dallas and Hiram of 73. Lows in the upper 50s. So, uh, maybe we'll see. Maybe a.

Break. Maybe there's a break. I don't know, but yes, it's supposed to be cloudy tomorrow, so we'll see.

Oh, boy. Rain continues on Tuesday with highs in the 70s.

98 seven Chad Tech, where 98.7% of our students are in a career.

So for each.

Of our programs at Chattahoochee Tech, we have an industry advisory committee. Those are people in each given industry that will employ our graduates when they get finished with our program.

We have students that are placed at manufacturing companies such as, let's say, Glock, for example, the gun manufacturer, because they have machinery that's running 24 over seven to create the guns. So all the way from that to healthcare, where like hospitals, for example, they're running 24 over seven and they have machinery that needs to be running 24 over seven as well.

My program is specifically for students who want to be in healthcare but maybe don't want patient contact. Maybe they want to be in healthcare in a healthcare field that's recession proof, and they're helping people. But maybe they don't want blood, body fluids, any of those elements in their lives. So they may choose healthcare management to be on the opposite side of the patient care.

From 11 Live's Facebook page. A deadly shooting unfolded at a Georgia Walmart, leaving a teenager dead and a nine year old girl injured. 19 year old Adrian jokes. A Walmart employee was arrested in connection to the incident, facing charges including murder, Pamela Johnson said watch them, let him out or blame the victim. Anita Renee said people nowadays using guns when they get angry, learn how to walk it off so you have no regrets. Later, Jes and Brittany Dennard said you just ruined your life and took another for what I'm sure is nonsense. I'm sure that smirk will be gone soon. Talking about his mugshot.

Mom, 19 years old and there you go.

I mean, I agree with me. You get angry and you use a weapon. No, let's let's, you know, let's go back to fists if that's the case. From the What's Happening in Paulding County Facebook page, Sean Stamper posted ordered takeout Longhorn Hyrum. This was supposed to be medium. This makes third or maybe fourth time they've cooked food wrong. When you call to speak to management, they just want to send out a gift card. No thanks. We're done. This place is a disaster. Management could care less chop steak. Well, Brian Eastwood said Texas Roadhouse is much better. Aaron Barnett said eight there last week. There was a full on rubber glove in one of our salads, but management was great about it. Laura said the last two times I've been, I've gotten raw food. First time was grilled chicken on a salad. It was raw, raw, and the next time the steak was raw and the manager said, that's so strange, we have our best cook back there, Elaine Jett said. We also sent our hamburger back and it was the same. The replacement wasn't cooked any more either. The manager on duty was nice, but this obviously is an ongoing issue. And Kayla Cassidy, I mean, you're right, they could care less, but they cared enough to offer a gift card. If they couldn't have cared less, they would have told you to kick rocks. But I mean, there's a lot of complaints about this restaurant. All right. Your weird story for the day comes from Oxford, Ohio, where a father's complaint about his child's homework has led to unexpected consequences. Adam Sizemore repeatedly called his son's school to express frustration over the amount of homework assigned to the elementary school age child. Police intervene after Sizemore persistent calls with authorities, noting his slurred speech during interactions. Despite warnings to cease his calls, Sizemore continued even resorting to threats toward school officials, prompting his arrest on multiple charges, including telecommunications harassment and menacing. This from WSB.

That's funny actually, Melissa, I I've heard more about this story. The reason why he was so mad is because he was unable to actually complete the homework for his son. It it was too hard for him.

So his elementary school aged son, he couldn't help him. And so it sounds like he got drunk and called the school and complained and got arrested. Bless his heart.

A Cartersville high School teacher is facing charges after being accused of engaging in inappropriate relationship with a student. Police received a report of the suspected relationship between John Sneed and a student. This is a quote school officials acted immediately and in accordance with the appropriate situational protocols. The teachers no longer employed at Cartersville City Schools, school officials said in that statement. Specific details relating to the alleged improper relationship are unknown. This from the patch and your response is, I mean, we it happens a lot, doesn't it, Doug?

Yeah, it sure does. Here's your sports. Thanks to new season, church and baseball East Paulding, they lost Altoona, 75. Harrison and North Paulding. They split a doubleheader. Harrison winning the first game 11 to 1. And North Paulding winning the second game 4 to 1. And that is your level sports.

And finally the Paulding County Sheriff's Department is growing. They announced the addition of Maria Turner, who will serve as receptionist. And a warm welcome was also recently extended to the new detention officer, Tanya Paul. Officials congratulated Maria and Tanya as they embark on the journey with the Paulding County Sheriff's Department. So congratulations to them. This from the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

All right, so I'm going to call up the Paulding County Sheriff's Office. And I'm going to prank call Maria Turner.

And we will have final thoughts after this.
