A plan to allow limited, low-scale commercial development along Okeechobee (Oh-key-CHOE-bee) Boulevard has several Loxahatchee (Lox-Ah-HATCH-ee) Groves residents concerned. They say it may change the rural nature of the town in Palm Beach County’s western communities and lead the state to expand Okeechobee Boulevard to four lanes wide from two. Loxahatchee Groves officials say the plan would significantly limit development and that they’ll fight widening the roadway. The plan is next scheduled to come up for public discussion in September. Town officials said they’ll consider making adjustments to it before a final vote.
