Authorities are investigating why a 29-year-old inmate at the Palm Beach County Jail died Monday. Travis Fletcher of Lake Park failed to appear for breakfast, and jail deputies found him unresponsive in his cell. Hospital personnel pronounced him dead a short time later. Riviera Beach police had arrested Fletcher on an aggravated assault charge March 24, and on the day he died, a judge unaware of his passing had agreed to lower his bail to an amount his family could afford, allowing for his release. Palm Beach County public defenders have argued for lower bail for many nonviolent inmates in the wake of the coronavirus.
