In West Palm Beach, the First Federal Savings and Loan building at the corner of Southern Boulevard and Olive Avenue is being transformed. With its metal finishes and ample windows with an art deco flair, the 1959 building just over the bridge from well-heeled Palm Beach has worn down the past couple of decades. In July, it will re-open as a 7-Eleven and six-pump gas station – a convenience store with a grand glass-lined two-story rotunda, sparkling 1950s-era chandelier, and the building’s signature standalone clock.
