In Jupiter, officials running the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area have said for months there may be a chance for groups to utilize the old Coast Guard barracks. Now four applicants have put pen to paper and officials are reviewing their proposals. Loggerhead Marinelife Center, the Loxahatchee River District, the Nature Conservancy and the Teach the Beach Foundation each applied to use one or more of the four barracks tucked behind the lighthouse. There is a catch. Applicants would pay to renovate the buildings, which may have lead paint and asbestos problems. A decision on whether to approve any of the proposals, or none at all, is expected by late July.
