On this episode of College Football Apostles, the guys talk about Arch Manning's new NIL deal with Red Bull, and the quote he gave that has Ralph Amsden acting like a hater. George Wrighster brings up a list of On3's top 10 returning QBs in the 2025 season, and explains why it sets unfair expectations for the #1 QB on the list. The guys also talk about a lawsuit filed by a Wisconsin player who started his career at a D2 school, and wants the NCAA to allow the same extended eligibility they've given to former JuCo players like Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia. The ACC released its schedule, and they went heavy on Friday games- George and Ralph explain why, as Pac-12 fans, Fridays aren't the best idea. Finally, Michigan is pushing back on the NCAA's findings in the Connor Stallions investigation, and George and Ralph give their thoughts on whether that's the right move for the Wolverines.
I'm George Reister, He's Ralph Amson, and this is the College Football Apostles and we got a lot to talk about today. Now we got to talk a little bit about Arch Manning and in the comments, Texas fans have not been expressively happy because they like, you're talking about our guy. Well, can he live up to this hype? And he's got a new Red Bull deal that absolutely contradicts everything that he said. I'm not mad at him, but Ralphis now there is a new lawsuit when it comes to the NC DOUBLEA, the Diego Pavia Juco thing, but now it's for Division two players. How would this impact everything? And will this settlement ever get finished? I say no. The ACC releases its schedule, This impacts Notre Dame, this impacts their TV contract with ESPN, and also they are not playing on Saturdays as much as they need to be playing on Saturday. And their A list came out from on three of the top returning quarterbacks for twenty twenty five, and we got to dive into that. And Michigan responds to the Connor Stallions' allegations. They're fighting back. That and more here on the College Football Apostles, make sure that you like, subscribe, get notifications, and tell a friend about the show. Let's get to it, all, right, we gotta start with that boy, arch Oh. Listen. Archie is the most anticipated, the most hyped up college quarterback that we've had, probably since like Trevor Lawrence and now Trevor Lawrence, Andrew Luck all of those and now and we talked on the other show about can he live up to that high? But now he has done something that has rubbed Ralph the wrong way. Now, if we go back to last year when the NCAA game was getting ready to come out, during this time, all the college players are signing their rights away for like six hundred bucks a free copy of the game, and obviously some people negotiated higher deals. And I remember arch Manning said he's not doing it because he wants to focus on football. And what did I say then, Ralph?
That he was lying, yes, and that he was going to get made a whole video about it.
Yes, and that he was going to get a big bag. I told you, I knew what was going to happen, So I don't even know why you're upset about this.
That was corny. This is corny, he's corny.
So here is what Ralph feels this corny. So he's got a new nil deal, this time it's with red Bull, and he says, quote, I'm focused on playing foot. Well, that's what I love to do. I'm not here to do nil deals. Those are extra curriculars. But I'd like to drink a red Bull every now and then. What's the problem with this?
The fake humility, the fake humility, I'm not here to do nil deals. Buddy, your recruiting trip cost a quarter of a million dollars?
Is it he being? But is there a world, Ralph that you're being overly sensitive? And and he is being cheeky here as as the as our friends across the pond would say, isn't he trying to make a joke right here?
What's the joke?
I'm not do n IL deals even though I.
Have health deals.
Well, this is this is like a and this is some like federal politician level gaslighting, red meat for the masses of college football fans with purchasing power, the blue hairs, the old people who hate an il. So you throw them this bone and saying like, hey, I don't like it either, but I'll drink a red bull and you should too.
Shut up, shup up. You're so stupid.
Rah rah. He is a Do you understand that the mining family is about that bread? Like you know that and there's no problem.
Are no problem with the bread, There's no problem with it. I told you that I didn't like what and you didn't either. You didn't either at the time. I don't know why I'm so much more annoyed than you at this point. Maybe it's because you were right, and you like being right. You get off on it. You gotta. I mean a lot of people got a kink for being right, but I just, dude, this kid is getting on my nerves.
It was.
It's one thing that a lot of the recruiting rankings were driven by his last name. We like, we know that because if he was the number one, like if he if he was who he says he is, he would have been playing. Not if he was who he says he is, If he was who everybody that matters says he is, that gave him that fifth star, that said he's going to be a first round pick. He would have played as a freshman or a sophomore more than just garbage time or in a case of injury, which means we got to admit something about quin Ewers that maybe we're not willing to admit that he was better than arch Manning was well, and that's a completely.
Sark wasn't gonna bench yours. He's loyal to him.
Oh yes, super loyal, They asked Washington fans, how loyal Steve sarkisian is?
What do you mean?
Did he not leave.
For a check?
Yeah?
It? Look, look who cares?
Who cares?
None of this stuff matters. What bothered me about the NC double A thing is the implication to his teammates who did opt in, that they're not focused on football and he's a backup. He's a backup out here issuing a statement that makes him talk talking like a start. Hates to quote Drake right before Kendrick performs in the Super Bowl, but bench players talking like starters.
I hate it.
So it was already the implication that if you accepted a deal with NC double A, you weren't focused on football was a very dumb thing to do. And a lot of college kids they don't have time to take offense to something like that, but I do. I found it offensive and stupid. You made a video about it, and now he's saying that like, hey, I'm not here to do nil deals, then don't take them.
Then don't ro You are one hundred percent right. Let me explain this. You are one hundred percent right that him do it? That that yes, that the that him saying that I'm focused on football and all of that stuff. And I told you that it was a It was a ploye to get more money. It was a negotiating tactic, and it was also to and either that or it was to generate some buzz surrounding Arch, right and then knowing that they were going to circle back and do this whole campaign about him in the game after either I mean, but but that would be a lot of doing for a backup, which was going to be last year. But here's the thing is, I don't know. I don't believe that they were intending on necessarily him being a backup all year that because remember what I told you that was coming out of Texas was was that was that Hewers was the guy. However, if he didn't play well, and that Arch would play in the first few games some and that if he didn't beat Michigan or if he looked bad in any of those games, then there could be a takeover and Archist stats pull up, pull up archers stats for US.
Ralph, No, that what he has? Like eight touchdowns against UH Citadel. He played one meaningful game. I'm not pulling up why why are I gonna pull up a backup stats? I'm focused on this show. I'm not here to stats. I'm focused on this show. See, because you can only focus on one thing at a time. That's why I'm so mad at Arch. He's the old boomers believe some of the dumbest They cling to some of the dumbest beliefs, and they're gonna die with these dumb beliefs. Finds are feeding into them, like the idea that you can only focus on football.
This is the type of thing that makes.
Lions fans blame Ben Johnson for taking an interview when he had two weeks to prepare for a football game. Yeah, Arch Manning is feeding some of the dumbest ideas we have in our society, which is that if you accept a check, you can't focus on football.
Well, then, how all right, Ralph? I got you here, everybody under the everybody listening to this, I got you. I got you, so, Ralph, So you're annoyed with Arch Manning? Right?
Oh my god?
Yes?
Okay, So this is the most annoying I've been with an athlete since Brady Quinn did those Myoplex commercials where he's trying to be a bodybuild and he's like, now I'm done like that. That's been twenty years and I still think about that commercial every single day. That's how dumb this quote is about this red Bull deal.
Okay, cool? So Arch is getting this check and that's and and you don't like the wording surrounding it. So no, how about how about this? Because the list of the most impactful potential quot quarterbacks for next season came out and your boy is.
Leading the list.
Oh boy boy? Hey? Uh hate this?
No?
I do hate it. That's rat poison. You and I had a private phone conversation two days ago about the dangers of over hping Sam Levitt, and then on three comes out with the list putting him like what he's he like eight spots above?
Ki, bro, here's why.
So I believe that Sam Levitt. Dude, this the effusive praise for Sam Levitt. It is people watch hate.
People have only watched one game.
Correct. I hate this And it's not that I think the kid sucks, because I don't. I believe he got progressively better last year. Where he couldn't throw the ball well in the beginning of the season, he got better and better. And I do believe the kid is a good quarterback. However, Arizona State season last year was such an outlier from what reasonable expectations were that it feels like anything short of a playoff appearance is a letdown for this season. And I don't think Arizona State is going to make the playoff for a second year in a row. I think that cam Scattaboo and this season were absolute magic. Do I believe that they'll win somewhere in between like eight and ten games? Yes? Do I need to see them in the spring and the portal, Yes, But I think this team will win in between eight and ten games this year, which which would still mean Kenny Dillingham is way ahead of schedule, way on the right track all of those things. But Sam Levitt being number one on this list.
Is do do you have the list up on the screen?
Yes?
Okay, okay, I want to do a little thought exercise with you. Okay, because this list is egregious h and the thing that sticks out really is the same Levit thing.
Because okay, so let me let me give the list first to the people who are listening on audio.
Of course.
So you got Sam Levitt one, Drew Aller two, Drew Alis should probably be number one on this list, and no, I'm saying based upon what he's actually actually Kate Clubnick should probably.
Keep it rolling, keep it rolling, because I got I got something for you, I got something for you.
Sam Levitt one, Drew Aller two, DJ Lagway three, Arch Manning four, Garrett I'm sorry, Leonora Sellers five, Damn he could be number one two, Garrett Nussmeyer six, Carson Beck seven he should be thirteen, Kate Club Nick eight, John Mattier nine, and Nico E I'm a lava number seven, I mean number ten.
Okay, are you ready? Okay, flip it. If you flip this. I have not many problems with it, and I know it's predictive. I know it's somebody's opinion. I know it's meant to start discussion, but you shouldn't come out with a list where someone says reverse it completely and it will make more sense.
Yeah, if you put Niko one, I wouldn't argue with and that he made a jump, but he played in a lot of meaningful games. And then John Materiat two. I definitely do not hate that because John Materia two, John Matier was the best quarterback available in free agency this year period, probably the best player available period. Yes, and I think Leonora's sellers could be higher, but based upon what they did and their team accomplishment last year, I would either put Kate club Nick one or Drew all or one, and then John Matier two. I'm actually super excited about DJ Lagway. I would put for safety's sake, I would put Sam Levitt in the middle, and then Carson Beck would be ten. Nuss Meyer would be like nine, Arts would be prop eight. Yeah, somewhere around there.
Okay, And now I know a couple of these guys moved in uh well one of them in what world? In what plan? What planet? Will six of the top ten quarterbacks in any given season be in the SEC in what world? And that's including Carson Beck leaving, so technically seven or I guess you could go back to six because John Tier came from Washington State or whatever. But six of the top ten quarterbacks in any given season being from the SEC.
Never gonna happen, Ralph, you just pointed out a genius point, Bro. So you got DJ Lagway, arch Manning, Lenora Sellers, Garrett Nussmeier, Jeohn Materier, and uh Nico e Amaliva from the same from the same damn conference. Come on, come on, bro, stop it, stop it. I mean, I guess there was a year where the Pac twelve did have like all the best quarterbacks in the in.
The Yeah, but that doesn't happen in the SEC like it, Just like with the the not everybody has moved on to that style of us.
Not on this list. That absolutely. On one hand, I'm happy that he's not on this list. He's not on the preseason Heisman list, none of this. But the dude that might be better than all of these dudes.
On the list, Dante Moore.
Dante Moore. People have completely forgotten about the kid because he transferred from UCLA. Even some Oregon fans have said, oh my god, what are we gonna do it? Quarterback? Like Bro, the the sentiment surrounding Oregon is the exact same way it was. I think it was in twenty ten, when I was in Arizona at the Fiesta Bowl, the National championship that they were gonna put. Oregon was gonna play against Auburn and they told me they said. I was talking to the coaches. I was like, man, win or lose, Bro, We're gonna be back next year. Darren Thomas is gonna be back at quarterback. And they were like, WHOA slow down. I was like, what are you talking about. He's taking a team to a Rose Bowl then a damn national championship. What do you I was like, is he going to the NFL? He shouldn't. They were like, nah, bro, we got this kid on the bench named Marcus Mariota. I was like, okay, so what's I.
Was like a freshman.
They were like yes, Bro, They're like, so he's he's probably gonna be our starter because you know, Darren's not gonna want on a obviously, you know, compete for his job or potentially lose his job, but we think he's better.
Yeah, I am on this list. For me, there's no Eli Holstein, which.
Why is Eli hosting not on this list?
Yeah?
And then if we're just planning for guys that you know, I was probably.
This list for Eli Holsting and a heartbeat Julian saying also, like you look at the situation he's gonna go into, you got to say, like, I don't it's possible on the list because we have not seen in a single solitary like throw from him.
Have we No. But if we're going to say people that we've seen, like go off poor Man's John Mattier as far as what he produced and where he produced it. Last year, you've got Devin damp here going to Utah like there's yeah, I don't know, there's just I And then think of, yeah, how far how far our guy at Arizona has fallen? Or they're just saying without team AC he's no, yep, yeah, without team Akkey's nothing. But I don't know as the list as it stands, if you reversed it, it would be a lot more digestible for me. But when you put somebody in a number one spot, you said, you know you don't think Arizona State is going to make the college football Playoff in twenty twenty five six.
Well that's the expectation.
If you say they have the best returning quarterback in the country.
Yes, yes, I do believe that Utah is gonna win the conference. The Big twelve.
Oh yeah, that'll be man. That would piss Big twelve fans off so much.
To have Arizona State and then Utah and the backet with yeah, yeah, that's that's just what I believe is going to happen. All right, next thing up. Okay, so eligibility matters and D two well, we already know about the Diego Pavia lawsuit. So the Diego Pavia lawsuit essentially made JUCO players their Juco years not count because when they transfer to Division one, they have all their eligibility left. Because Juco's like a disco with books. It is good for people. It is like, especially if you're on an academic path, college is very expensive. It's actually a very smart and affordable way to go to CO like it is like there's nothing. So I'm in no way, shape form or fashion like minimizing jucos because they are important. Aaron Rodgers went to a Jugu. There's a lot of people going to juos. It also is not the level of football that's going to prepare you for the next level. So I'm not mad at the Diego Pavia rule. But the Division two players are now saying, what about us? What about us? Because we should get that same treatment when we transfer up to Division one. Now I don't share that same opinion, Ralph.
To be super clear, To be super clear, the JUCO lawsuit hasn't done anything yet other than make the NCAA back off for one year on guys who would have graduated in twenty twenty five.
Right on you. Once you give an inch there, it's it's that. It's it's like I sawkat Williams Special. He was like, as you get older, have you ever noticed that when you put on that you can't put on ten pounds when you when you're twenty, in your twenties, five pounds, you're like, oh my god, I take a dump. But then when you get in your forties you put on ten ten pounds, you look, it ain't going to where it stuck with you for life at that point. That's the way it is with the Double A. Every time they lose an inch, it's like losing an inch with your kids. You lose an inch with forget that inch is gone.
Yeah, okay, so you anticipate this go but as far as it goes right now, it's just an emergency injunction for a one year thing. That's why Diego Pabia gets to come back to And I noticed he wasn't on that list.
On that top you had your adjunction also for the transfer portal. You had injunctions for all of that too. Every inch, every inch lost, is an inch gone. But to be very clear, quote don't let don't let people borrow money unless you intend not to get it back. If you can afford not to get it back, then you should let them borrow it.
So, but to be really clear, NC double A is different than the n cj AA or whatever, or the one that's based out of Call of California or ng A c A. There's two different juco associations. Neither one of them are affiliated with the NC double A at all.
Correct, where Division two is affiliated with the Double A. So yeah, it's not the same thing to me. And yes, I know that everybody wants more time, more opportunities, but I you know.
So this is and this is a Wisconsin kid. This is a Wisconsin kid that filed this lawsuit that that would get one more year nizer for Currion. Yes, and he played at Grand Valley state and wants another year at Wisconsin.
Hell, I would want another year with Wisconsin too. That's another year of n I own money, another year of free tuition, and another year of an opportunity to be good enough to go to the NFL. I don't blame him for wanting another year.
Do you think the NC doublation throw Wisconsin a bone? After what just happened with the dB. The dB that everyone knew wanted to go to Miami and Darren Heidner helped him back out of He just unenrolled from Wisconsin after they wouldn't grant his entry into the portal and enrolled at at Miami to show that the transfer portal actually isn't real.
Yeah, you don't even need to hop in the transfer portal to transfer and be eligible in school, disenroll, and then re enroll in school. So I don't think that Ralph. I don't believe that Division two athletes should be able to when they transferred to Division one get an extra year four years for those years that they were there. I believe that you earned your way up, that you did all of those things. But they're like, there's got to be a clock on these things, right, Yeah, like there has to be a clock, and we have already seen with that additional COVID year how that impacted. And then players who had to sit out that year got another year on top of that year. Dude, Like we got dudes on there that aren't even medicals that are on like year seven in college football, they didn't even get a medical year. So I do believe that like that play five, that you get five to play five is fine with me. Like, I'm I think that that's probably the answer the way we're not worried about red shirts and all of that stuff. Bro, you get five to play five and then in rare circumstances will grant you another year. That's all I got for you.
I think I think University of Phoenix should start a team because it's adult learning institution.
Oh my god, so that bro, do you know the pool of play?
We should get a pool. We should get like a twenty three to twenty six league.
Yeah, hey, because because you know what, then the next lawsuit is going to be.
Eligibility is faceys schools? Oh that would be so brutal.
You don't you don't think that would be the next step?
Oh, I definitely think it is but D one to D one or any transfer or just people should leave whenever they want to or because technically.
That is going to be the next thing. It is going to be somebody's gonna follow lawsuit. I want my FCS years back because I transferred to the FBS. Then it's gonna be all right. Man, I went from group of five to power five. I need another year. Well, technic gotta stop somewhere. Yeah, at some point in time. Now, I tell the kids all the time, you are supposed to be open minded. You are supposed to care about people. You are supposed to listen to their plight. Try to sew like you're supposed to be minded, but do not be so open minded that your brains fall out.
Yeah, I so this is going to be the worst comparison of all time. Look forward to you having a new college football Apostles co host after this one. But I if you read history books, right, if you read history books, there was like probably a seventy eighty year period where America's greatest men and thinkers and orators and politicians were all kind and even people who were slave owners, but they were all kind of in unison of like, yeah, you're right, slavery's probably bad. But if we free everybody, then we have to figure out everything else. Right, you got to figure out.
To figure out how to how to get the labor and pay for the labor and do all of these things free people.
But so they went, they went generations past when when they all pretty much knew that it had to come to an end.
And because yes, yes, they keep kicking the can down down down the street, and they're like, oh well, we'll let the kids worry about that.
One, right, and that I so that, But the nc double A for the longest time, they knew eventually they're going to get taken to court, they're gonna get their clock clean, and then they were gonna have to deal with every single other issue. And it's starting to seem like just a will to not deal with the obvious issues and lines we've drawn in college football, then it was to defend anaturism.
So so the the House settlement that was approved, my son who's in college, sent me the link for the for you to apply for that money, right and how much you're gonna get and everything else, Like there are players that I know that play during that time. They're anticipating fifty thousand dollars checks, one hundred thousand dollars checks, all sorts of stuff, right Like, I've seen kids that are anywhere between like six hundred bucks and one hundred thousand based upon the calculation in the settlement. Thing. The settlement's not approved. They have until Friday the thirty first for all objections to be in. There are already like thirteen or fourteen objections in already rolf. There is a unless they just march forward and are like middle finger to everybody, this thing is not getting approved. There are new lawsuits keep coming up every thirty six seconds. There are so many problems. There are Title nine problems with the with the revenue sharing, with the with the past payments. Why does it only stop here? Why doesn't it go for dude? It is a It is an avalanche of of nonsense. It would be bread. It would be much better for for the NCAA to do what people do in life when they have just fed up everything, file bankruptcy, file bankruptcy, right like, they need to essentially file bankrupt file Chapter eleven and close down the whole business and reopened under a different name with different rules, and like just just start it over instead of keep putting these dumb ass band aids on everything. Ball it up, throw it in the trash, start over.
That's take a queue from the American government and put a chaos agent in charge who just changes the rules every fifteen seconds. So you so all you have is people just begging for a normal day that I don't I honestly don't know what the NCAA is gonna do. And one of the worst things is it's giving credence to these people saying that NIL ruined college football. No, the NCAA ruined college football by not acting thirty years ago when they started to allow coaches to take checks directly from apparel companies, when you allowed everyone to get rich except for the labor force. And then you get surprised when people compare it to slavery, because oh, well, they got there, they got their education paid for. You don't think forced labor, indentured servitude were given the tools and ability to learn a trade. They were given the ability to learn a trade so that they could help the people that owned them. That's why check your equipment, your schooling, everything was office equipment. It was all to edify and enrich. The NC double A is a system. I don't if that makes me sound like a crazy lib it is what it is. The fact of the matter is everyone got rich except for the labor force.
Yep, dude. My freshman year when I was at Oregon, so before you play a game, before you do anything, they take you like. We practiced for a few days. Then we had a meeting that that night. It was a compliance meeting. Everybody has to sign these papers, all of this stuff like to be you know, like the paperwork to be eligible and the NC double A government. And I remember my freshman y or mind you, I'm eighteen years old and I have no idea about the legalities of things and everything. But they said that, yeah, you guys are gonna sign this paper. The NC double A is gonna be able to use your name, image and likeness in perpetuity. Blah blah blah. Just glanced over it. Me me being questioning man that I am, even at eighteen. I was like, okay, cool, I don't want to sign that paper, I said, I did not want to sign up. I was like, this makes no sense. Why would they own my name, image and likeness and perpetuity perpetuity means forever, right, And they were like, well, you have to sign the paper. I'm not signing the paper. Well if you can't sign it, if you don't sign a paper, you can't play. They had to call my parents, we had to call the compliance department. Bro, I've ran this all the way up. I had no clue. I just knew it was wrong. And they were like, brothers, you cannot play if you do not sign this paper. Is what we got to And so I signed the paper, but I knew it was wrong in the moment. I just didn't have a choice. I mean, I guess I did have a choice to not play college football, But what kind of choice is that?
Right?
Right?
And so it's very possible we move into the direction of what baseball has going on. And people will tell you there is no interest at all in minor league baseball. But you think the NFL is going to help the NCAA get more popular. They're already putting games on Saturdays.
Well, now they're going to schedule with the college football to try to Because here's the thing the NFL at least, because I was talking to somebody who worked at Nike about this, about why the NFL just throws the bird to the NBA because them adding this eighteenth game, that's going to happen. The NFL is either going to have to back the season up a week, start a week earlier, so start before Labor Day, or they're going to have to start or they're going to have to finish a week later, which then what is the week after the Super Bowl.
Ralph or two start game?
Yep, Star yep, the All Star Games a week after. The NBA already moved the All Star Game once, it moved it from before the Super Bowl, like that weekend before the Super Bowl two. They moved it back now after the Super Bowl so they can have their own weekend. So football's finished. Well, the NFL ad the eighteenth game. They've already taken Christmas like they just stomp on the NBA. But at least with the NFL, I mean with college football, the NFL actually has a vested interest in the players and a relationship with the NCAA because they want the top players out of college to be huge stars so then when they go to the draft, the fans can be excited know who the player that's So that's where the relationship is.
We want that.
They want that in theory, but if it comes down to bigger stars entering the NFL, a bigger paycheck from the TV payouts, they picked TV every time, which brings us to our next topic, the ACC.
Okay, so high school ut football, Okay, so tell me about these games. Okay, I'm gonna listen, James to you. Kennesaw State at wake Forest on August twenty ninth. How does the Colgate at Syracuse? They're like, okay, no big deal. Florida State at Virginia My Louisville. Louis said that all weird. I said, said that, like the Jacksonville head coach Duvo. Louisville at Miami.
That's the biggest day games of the year.
North Carolina at cal Cal at Virginia Tech. Damn they back to back weeks. North Carolina at Syracuse, Clemson at Louisville, Florida State at NC State, Georgia at Georgia Tech. Those all sound like good football games except for the first two, right.
Yep, yep. No, that's seven great football games. The last seven.
They're all on Fridays. Ralph, all of those games are on Fridays. So the ACC is doing what the PAC twelve did was like, hey, we'll get people to watch our games on Fridays. But the ratings say that people are not going to watch those games on Friday, not nearly at the level that they would watch them on Saturday. So if they get if you do two million on a Friday, you've done a great thing. That's like four million on a Saturday, four million plus actually four maybe five million on a Saturday. So the ACC is watering down its product, the availability, and now like, so, now I gotta choose between going to a big time high school football game and watching Florida State at Virginia.
And look at dude, look at Louisville. Louisville's got their game against Miami and their game against Clemson, both on Fridays. That means that if Louisville comes out and they're on a heater next year, that you've eliminated their two best opportunities to get college game day.
Damn.
And the ESPN is who drove this decision to put these games on Friday anyway.
Yeah, yeah, it's just a reinforcement Texas.
Yeah, this is a second class citizen league. ESPN and and the ACC are collaborating to make sure everybody knows that you're gonna have Bill Belichick twice on Friday nights.
Who's gonna watch it? Because the see here here. The other problem is the recruiting problem. Kids are playing on Fridays and you can't even get them on campus to your games on Fridays. This is why I hate Friday night games. I understand that they exist for a reason, but but these big times, but all of these a SEC games on Friday is bad for the conference.
Well, so let's say you're CAL Berkeley, right, so your your Cal. You uh, you are a prestigious academic institution. You don't recruit nationally in the way that Stanford recruits nationally, but you you do get who you can.
Yeah.
Right, You've gotten kids from from the Southeast and they've been some of your best players.
Jared Kiwi sup into it, Telly.
Yeah, they got him out at a Hawaii like they recruit nationally Cal does.
Yeah.
Now you have the opportunity to go out to North Carolina, which is a second tier football state as far as high school football. They got they got a lot of really really good options. Right, you get the opportunity to go out to North Carolina because you had to join up with the ACC. And you say to yourself, well, at least on that Friday night, we can get our coaches out to some games to see if we can't boost our recruiting profile, convince some people to move out to the Bay.
No, you can't because your game.
So you actually wasted a trip to the damn East Coast right because your game against Virginia Tech at school on Thursday instead of Actually, but then you're not even gonna see them at school on Thursday because you've got to be in practice.
Yeah, and you're not and yeah, and then your school week has an interruption because then you got to travel on a Wednesday instead of a instead of a Friday, because you're playing on Friday. So it's I don't know, I've never liked Friday. I've always been against Friday games. I think Saturday is for college football. But the ACC intentionally doing what I mean this used to be the PAC twelve apostles. We watched the conference fall apart. To watch the ACC do this fascinating. But they're also doing it on the heels of signing or essentially like locking in with ESPN until twenty thirty six.
Yes, exactly, all right, final thing up. So the Michigan Wolverines, they have now gone on the offensive against the NCUBA, with the Connor Stallions, lawsuits and you know, accusations and everything. They are going on the offensive and they're saying, you know what, we did some of what you said, but not all of it. So we don't want no heavy punishment. We are going to And I love this. I think that USC should have done this when it came to Reggie Bush, that yes, you were supposed to fight even if you I mean, our legal system teaches us this. I see you on tape stealing boxes, I saw you hit her, I saw shit. But how do you how do you please not guilty? And and and this drives normal humans crazy because they're like, what do you mean not guilty?
We see you doing it.
But here's the thing it is, and it teaches us to fight to the death and try to get your punishment lower. And that's exactly what Michigan is doing. This is not about them coming out smelling like roses. This is about Michigan is in a they feel like they're in a good spot football wise, and they don't want to end up losing recruits, players going into transfer portal because they got a bowld band and all of this stuff. This is this is why they're fighting it. It has nothing to do with whether they believe that they're guilty or innocent or anything else, because they're copping to some of it. But they're saying, I wasn't as bad as you think. Other people are doing it this like they are trying. They want this punishment when it comes down to be as minimal as possible.
Yeah, I mean that's what you that's what lawyers do. They're gonna fight. I I'm not one hundred percent sure it's their best option, but I guess they leave the door open to always just turn around and cooperate. You know, I guess if you you got to push back to a certain extent. The lawyers for Michigan saying that like you can't prove it, you can't prove it, and you can't prove its impact is is strange because it's either a rule violation or it's not. And so to get into the nitty gritty and say like that, because what they said about the Connor Stallions h paying for people's tickets to film sidelines doing advanced scouting using video to do it. That what they're saying is that, like you can't prove that impact of that, yes, which is a then why like why do it? If it if it provides you negligible advantage, why even do it?
And so.
Michigan is they're wilding out on this. To me, Sharon Moore has deleted text messages to Connor Stallions the end. Yeah, right, and they've chosen to stand by Sharon Moore. I I personally know that. I sure we've talked about it on this show. So it's no surprise Sharon Moore. When Jim Harbaugh was the coach, he was tampering. I told you a player was going to Michigan while he was still on the roster of another school. I told you it was Sharon Moore who reached out to and then that exact thing ended up happening. Like they were, they were doing whatever was available to them to be successful. And now if they want to turn around and say, yeah, you caught us, but it really wasn't that big of a deal. And so you know, we don't want to have all of the punishments in the world. I guess I look at what Arizona State went through, and you know, they also it was a self reported deal. And that's what Michigan is saying that this is it kind of sounds like they're trying to fish out a rat a little bit in reading the that they're saying the NCUBA is basing way too much on witness testimony, which is essentially hearsay, because how can you just straight up believe somebody if we've gone and deleted text messages, you don't know what they said. And the NCAA is trying to say, like, well, the deleted text messages are the point, yes, And Michigan's layers are like, nuh uh. They could have been about lunch orders. So you know, if you want to get into the nitty grip, I think it just keeps it in the news cycle.
There's a difference. See, this is why there's a difference between civil lawsuits and criminal lawsuits. Criminal lawsuits beyond a reasonable doubt, civil lawsuits more likely than not, Like you're dealing with fifty one forty nine and reasonable people are like, I mean, it's it's like the whole idea of like what would a guilt the person do. The problem with it is is that sometimes people panic and do weird stuff even when they're innocent. That's the issue. So Michigan is smart for fighting this. Are they right? Probably not? But who's right who's wrong in this world?
At the end of the day, Sharon Moore deleted fifty text messages to Connor Stallion's on the day that Yahoo Sports broke the story, Like, if I'm the NC DOUABLEA, what I offer in a Michigan it is give us the text messages. Because Sharon Moore can do that. He can go through his wireless carrier, he can everything's backed up. Give us the text messages and will We're more interested in the truth and how to prevent this next time than we are in punishing you. The investigation essentially is the punishment. That's how it was for Arizona State. Give us the texts. You give us the texts.
Let's see the text.
Yeah, Because I would at this point, if I'm the NC double A, I would rather wrap this up and be correct than be overly punitive because Michigan is not giving back a national title and any sanctions that affect Michigan in the future, They're going to continue to fight forever. So if I'm the NC double A, I say those fifty two text messages and we'll call we'll call it, We'll just call it. Even we're going to show cause Connor stallions because you can't do what he did. Yes, but those text messages, And if Michigan doesn't agree, then then the NC double A is like f you, then.
Bro those texts. I just can't even image and what the hell is in those texts? It could be something not that big of a deal, or it could be something that is a major deal. I need that phone about you, And I would be willing to bet that Michigan confiscated that phone because if it were the work phone, they can access that and they can go back and you know, forensically figure out what was deleted in everything else.
This is the type of stuff that if you fight it too hard, what you're going to end up with is college coaches, all recruiting, everything is going to have to take place in a trackable system like teams or something like that, and then any communication outside of the recruiting platform and the coach communication platform is going to be considered an infraction. That's what you're going to end up with is all communication of any kind is going to have to exist in a place where where all out in the open, assuming the NC DOUBLEA retains any power whatsoever. But if I'm the NC double A, that's what I'm going to end up doing. I'm going to get get everybody on Microsoft teams and say, like if if you're if your coach is talking to coach, and then you have to you have to employ somebody who's essentially like the ia B of your college to track to make sure that everybody's doing stuff that they should, flagging anything that they shouldn't and addressing it like you're You're gonna end up with a really, really in depth tracking system for all communications just because one person doesn't want to turn his text messages over because they definitely implicate him. Yeah, Michigan fans are going to say, like, we that were harping on a thing that doesn't matter. If it didn't matter, why delete the text. Any Michigan fan, if Ohio State was going through this right now, would be saying the same thing. So I don't I don't have any sympathy from They got a national championship out of the deal. No one's coming to take it away. Zero sympathy for Michigan fans. I don't care how sick of it they are. I don't care how much they hate the Ncuba. Where are the text messages? That's the end of the conversation, that.
