Mike speaks with Nicole Jameson, Digital Strategist and Director of Dark Horse Agency, who says a landmark social media addiction trial could change everything.
For years, social media companies avoided legal responsibility by claiming they were simply digital “community notice boards.” But those platforms have evolved far beyond that - now driven by algorithms and endless scrolling designed to control what users see and keep them hooked.
A key US case is now challenging that defence, arguing these companies should be held accountable for mental health impacts and regulated like traditional media under the Communications Act.
If the jury rules against them, it could open the floodgates to thousands of similar lawsuits—and signal a long-overdue shift in accountability.
