Mike speaks with Mark Roeder, author and tech impact consultant with a Chicago-based geopolitical advisory firm, about Queensland’s move to criminalise the creation of deepfake nudes.
Under proposed laws, creating AI-generated or digitally altered explicit images of someone without their consent will become a criminal offence, punishable by up to three years in jail.
The legislation aims to better protect both adults and children from online sexual abuse and exploitation. The changes follow a series of deepfake scandals in Queensland schools and close a loophole that previously made it difficult to charge offenders for creating the material.
