Plant pirates take root in the suburbs

View descriptionShare

We all know about porch pirates stealing parcels, now there’s a new threat: plant pirates.

Across the country, thieves are stealing expensive potted plants from verandahs and even digging newly planted trees and shrubs straight out of gardens, sometimes in broad daylight.

High-value plants and pricey ceramic pots are easy targets and are often resold on Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree.

Gina Field, Operational Security Expert and Founder of Nepean Regional Security, tells Mike that with cost-of-living pressures, thieves are turning to plants because they’re valuable and easy to resell.

Gina also shares her top tips on how to protect your plants from plant pirates.
