Yesterday, the Overnight program featured a call from Peter, a listener who emphasised the importance for men to be aware of their status regarding prostate cancer.  He shared his experience of receiving regular PSA blood tests that indicated normal levels, but his doctor discovered an issue during a physical examination.

This prompted Luke to speak with Anne Savage, the CEO of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, who reveals that Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, and it is estimated that one in six males will be diagnosed by the time they are 85.  

Even worse, the number of Australian men being diagnosed with prostate cancer is significantly outpacing population growth, with new data revealing a 571 per cent increase in case numbers between 1982 and today. 

This figure compares to just a 73 percent increase in Australia’s male population, vastly outstripping overall population growth.
