Play is crucial in the development of kids life-long skills

View descriptionShare

Clinton speaks with Emma Watkins, LEGO Play Ambassador and former Wiggle, about the importance of play for Australian families and how making time for play is crucial in the development of life-long skills.

With less than a third (30%) of adults aware that play is a fundamental right, there’s an urgent need to put playtime back on the agenda for Aussie kids!

Research reveals the majority of children (88%) wish they could play more, and two thirds (66%) of parents say workloads and hours spent working, get in the way of family play.

To highlight the importance of play in the lives of all children, the LEGO Group held World Play Day on 11 June - a global movement to spread the message of why making space and time for play is important for all children - on the same date as the United Nations’ inaugural International Day of Play!

Ms Watkins, discusses why play is so important for development, the barriers that prevent Aussies from engaging in play, as well as giving her top tips to incorporate some fun into everyday life.
