Clinton speaks with Ryan Park, Labor Member for Keira and Minister for Health, about the latest Bureau of Health Information (BHI) report, highlighting the challenges and improvements in NSW public health services from July to September 2024.
Emergency departments (EDs) saw 787,590 attendances, a 2.1% increase from the same period in 2023, with a record 195,703 patients arriving by ambulance. While more urgent cases were treated, less serious presentations declined since early 2024.
Wait times worsened, with only 61.3% of patients starting treatment on time—a record low—and less than half of urgent cases (49.2%) treated on time. Elective surgery timeliness improved compared to 2023, but the number of patients waiting beyond recommended times rose from 1,857 in June 2024 to 3,991 in September 2024.
