Hong Kong protest leader urges Australia to send HK a message

View descriptionShare

Connie Leung, Vice-convener of the Hong Kong Civil Human Rights Front & pro-democracy protester, about her trip to Australia to lobby federal MPs in Canberra to consider US-style laws that include the threat of sanctions against Beijing if it beaches democratic and human rights in Hong Kong.

"What we're seeing in Hong Kong is a visualisation of how bad, how bullying China can be," Ms Leung says.

"Doing business with China now is like feeding a monster. When you keep feeding it, it will get bigger and bigger.”

Ms Leung issued the plea to members of the joint standing committee on foreign affairs, defence and trade, saying Hong Kong had become a police state without accountability for those attacking protesters.
