China has announced the launch of three artificial moons into space over the next four years to illuminate cities at night & reduce the need for street lights.  The first moon will be eight times brighter than the real moon will be launched in 2020 over the southwestern city of Chengdu.

The audacious plan has been greeted with some scepticis and rightly so says Dr Alan Duffy, Astronomer and a research fellow at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne.
