83,000 more tradies urgently needed

View descriptionShare

Clinton speaks to Geordan Murray, HIA (Housing Industry Association) Executive Director Future Workforce, about their newly released report that warns that trade shortages present a significant threat to achieving the Housing Accord’s target of building 1.2 million homes over the next five years.

Australia faces a critical shortage of tradies needed to meet housing demands and reduce costs.

The report All Hands on Deck calls for a 30% increase in the construction workforce, requiring over 83,000 additional tradies to meet the Housing Accord target of 240,000 homes built annually.

While domestic recruitment is important, it won’t fully solve the problem. Skilled migration is also essential to address the immediate shortage.

Urgent government action is needed to tackle this workforce crisis, according to Mr. Murray.
