Dorothy McRae McMahon

View descriptionShare

Dorothy McRae McMahon is a celebrated activist, retired Australian Uniting Church minister, lesbian icon, and co-editor of the South Sydney Herald. Her life is one of very high highs, and very low lows: from being the first woman to be ordained in Australia, to harassment by a neo-nazi group, to being accepted in the Uniting Church in spite of her sexuality, to losing her beloved partner Ali, to having her activism recognised in several national awards. Her stories and lessons can be found in the 17 books she’s written, but Mia sat down and tried to get a snapshot of it all in one short hour of Out of the Box.

This episode was produced by Louisa Christie.
