On this episode of Our American Stories, when General Motors shifted to remote work in 2020, Emma McCormick realized she could work from anywhere. Instead of renting another apartment, the recent Hillsdale College graduate bought a 25-foot sailboat, moved to a marina in Florida, and made the sea her home.

Emma shares how an Idaho native with no sailing background learned to navigate life afloat, why she embraced an unconventional version of the American Dream, and what it's really like balancing a corporate career with life on a sailboat.

Our American Stories tells stories that aren’t being told. Positive stories about generosity and courage, resilience and redemption, faith and love. Stories about the past and present. And stories about ordinary Americans who do extraordinary things each and every day. Stories from our listeners about their lives. And their history. In that pursuit, we hope we’ll be a place where listeners can refresh their spirit, and be inspired by our stories.
