Marker 01

On this episode of Our American Stories, before VHS, streaming, or even the ability to watch Star Wars whenever they wanted, children had another way to return to a galaxy far, far away: toys. Kenner soon became one of the world's largest toy manufacturers, but after Return of the Jedi and George Lucas's decision to step away from Star Wars, the phenomenon seemed to be over.

Jarrod Roll, creator of The Nostalgia Awakens, shares the story of how Star Wars toys went from childhood treasures to truly valuable collectibles. Along the way, he tells his own story of rediscovering the toys of his childhood and eventually turning his collection into a museum exhibit celebrating the generation that grew up with Star Wars.

Our American Stories tells stories that aren’t being told. Positive stories about generosity and courage, resilience and redemption, faith and love. Stories about the past and present. And stories about ordinary Americans who do extraordinary things each and every day. Stories from our listeners about their lives. And their history. In that pursuit, we hope we’ll be a place where listeners can refresh their spirit, and be inspired by our stories.
