Ep. 116 - Doug Ford sets a precedent

View descriptionShare
Last week, an Ontario judge ruled that an election spending law put in place by the provincial government infringed on freedom of expression. Hours later, Premier Doug Ford announced the province would be invoking the notwithstanding clause to override the court's decision. Premier Doug Ford threatened to invoke the clause in 2018, but eventually backed down, so this will be the first time the clause has ever been invoked in Ontario.

On the podcast this week, Paul Cavalluzzo, a labour lawyer who was part of that original court case, joins to discuss the case and the impact of invoking the notwithstanding clause. Plus, some surprising new polling sheds new light on the fate of the provincial government.
