On this podcast, Simon Lim features Christopher Lim, Founder of Marie's Lapis Café (situated at Block 537 Bedok North Street 3) in Singapore. Christopher named his 24-seat cafe after his Nyonya mother Marie Yeo, who is the inspiration behind Ma rie’s Lapis Cafe.
Why did Christopher choose do a business serving Peranakan cuisine - which involves much preparation work and requires a true labour of love? (Christopher was an R: &D Engineer before turning into a cafe owner in 2020).
What is the relationship dynamic between Christopher and his mother at home versus the kitchen (at work)?
At Marie’s Lapis Cafe, one can enjoy 4th generation Nyonya recipes and even fusion dishes (e.g. Buah Keluak Mee Tai Mak, Spicy Seafood Sambal Spaghetti, and Prawn Sambal Seafood Spaghetti). What will Christopher suggest as must-try dishes?
Now that Christopher has a second  Peranakan eatery called JustB Baba,
(located at Marine Parade Central), what will diners see on the menu of JustB Baba? Why is the cafe's name different?
Understanding diners is extremely important in the F&B industry. Have  diners changed in consumption habits? Christopher will give you some insights.
Why is preservation of food culture and heritage important to Christopher? What has he discovered about his heritage and his mother that he only found out by operating Marie's Lapis Café and JustB Baba?
