Celebrated comedian, actor and writer Ebenhaezer Dibakwane, has been laid to rest in Mbombela, Mpumalanga. The 31-year-old Dibakwane passed away on Friday last week.His family has revealed that he struggled with depression for years. They say they pray that this tragedy reminds people of the need to look out for each other and seek professional help where necessary.His uncle Joe Seoloane says they will advocate for mental health to keep Dibakwane’s memory alive.“As a comedian, sometimes when he made comedy around depression, we just thought he was taking the topic to the stage, a stand-up comedian. We thought that’s how he is making people aware of mental health. But we never knew that he is struggling with it to that extent. ”Tshireletso "TT" Phasha is a fellow comedian was amongst the 50 comedians/artists that held a memorial service in Johannesburg for Ebenhaezer Dibakwane. Imvemnyama, born Sive Mqikela, is making waves in the South African music scene with his deeply introspective and narrative-driven approach to songwriting. His latest singles, “Sawa Street” and “You’re Not Who You Think You Are (Cape Town),” showcase his ability to capture the essence of life’s complexities and the hidden stories of his home country. Describing his artistic identity, Mqikela shares, “Imagine a kraal [traditional enclosure for livestock] where a black sheep is born. They may not be seen as valuable, but they become the longest-standing member, a living historian. This is how I see myself as Imvemnyama – a black (singing) sheep, offering a perspective on the unseen and unheard.” We speak to Sive Mqikela.

Groovists are on their feet when the House DJ Shezy, formerly known as Nhlanhla Shezi, starts her set, curated to her unique tastes of Afro Tech, Tribal, and 3-Step music. With her head bopping under mega earphones, this talented DJ and aspiring music producer from Soweto takes the crowd on a mesmerizing musical journey. Shezy’s passion for music began at age 18, when she secured a residency at The View Lounge in Soweto. Despite venturing into the corporate world after completing her Communications studies at the University of Johannesburg, the rhythm of the beat called her back to her first love—DJing. 

The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund recently hosted a pivotal pre-summit engagement on September 28 and 29, uniting 50 children from various provinces to address pressing issues impacting their lives and futures. With support from key stakeholders such as the Department of Social Development and the Human Rights Commission, the event is designed to empower young participants as they articulate their concerns and aspirations in a safe and inclusive environment. Johan Sifiso Sithebe, better known by his stage name DaMabusa, is a dynamic force in South Africa’s music scene. Hailing from Kwamhlanga, Mpumalanga, DaMabusa's musical journey began in 2007 with a clap and tap choir, but his evolution into a vocal powerhouse and record label owner truly took flight with the founding of his own choir in 2019. Cameroonian internationally acclaimed jazz artist Alain Tchapa, began his illustrious jazz career at the tender age of 12 in his hometown of Bafang, Cameroon. Renowned for his unique fusion of traditional African rhythms with modern jazz elements, Tchapa's music has captivated audiences across the continent, earning him critical acclaim for his innovative approach. His journey into music began in the face of immense personal tragedy; losing both his parents at just 10 years old, he found solace and expression in music, using it as a means to heal and persevere through the hardships he faced. Despite the adversity of a challenging upbringing, where he lived in various homes and endured mistreatment, Tchapa's passion for music remained unwavering. Moving across different African countries, he eventually settled in South Africa, where he worked as a tourist guide while never letting go of his musical aspirations. Zambian-born Malawian stand-up comedian based in England, Daliso Chaponda is a definition of breaking norms. In 2017, he became a finalist in the show Britain's Got Talent and finishing third overall. In 2018 he launched a BBC Radio 4 series Daliso Chaponda: Citizen of Nowhere. English TV personality Simon Cowell said he can see you owning your own show and here he is doing just that and more. He joins us on the line

In the wake of South Africa's two-year Covid-19 restrictions, artists and sports professionals found themselves in dire financial straits. During this challenging period, they were paid an average of between R10 000, R20 000 and some up to R50 000 to help mitigate the economic impact. This vital support came from the sport, arts, and culture department, which aimed to provide much-needed relief to those whose livelihoods were severely affected by the pandemic. On Wednesday, Minister Gayton McKenzie announced the publication of a list detailing the names of the artists and sports professionals who benefited from these financial measures. Jazz and Afro Soul musician Kapi Gantsu has released a twelve-track album, "Nomatile," in honor of his late aunt; the album includes hits such as "Ekhaya," "Ngiyavuma," and the fan favorite "Llinkomo." Telling stories of his upbringing, love, and relationships in his mother tongue language of isiXhosa, the now Johannesburg-based singer-songwriter found inspiration in hymns, spiritual, and diverse musical traditions that surrounded him. As a songwriter, Kapi enjoys putting together melodies that tell a beautiful love story, as evident in track four on the album titled ‘Lerato.’

Sun Xa Experiment, a band that combines traditional African music with modern influences to create an energetic and powerful sound that has taken festivals by storm. Founded in 2014, with Lead vocalist Buyisiwe Njoko, Bass guitarist Tebogo Mkhize, Lerato Setei on the Electric guitar player, backup vocalist Karolo More and Simphiwe Watte on Percussion. A rapidly growing stand-up comedian in the South African comedy space, who won the Battle of Bedfordview comedy competition for comedians with under three years experience and performing for the president at the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation awards.

Multifaceted entertainer known for his roles as a comedian, TV presenter, actor, and scriptwriter Nqobizitha Mitchel Dube popularly known as Q Dube Siziba, hailing from Zimbabwe, has made his mark in the comedy space in multiple countries. As a TV presenter, he has hosted shows such as “The Q Dube Show” and “The Late Night Show with Q Dube.” The comedian has also demonstrated his acting prowess in films and television series, including notable works like “Cook Off” and “The Gentleman.” 2017 saw him winning the Outstanding Comedian award at the National Art Merit Awards and later his contributions to the comedy scene have earned him recognition and opportunities to perform alongside international comedians. The annual online South African contemporary dance conference JOMBA! MASIHAMBISANE DIALOGUES, is set to be hosted by the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Centre for Creative Arts’ JOMBA! from 22nd to 24th of May. Now in its fourth edition the conference has attracted significant participation from around the globe; from dance-makers, academics, dancers, educators, and researchers from 11 countries including Brazil, Canada, Cape Verde, France, Germany, South Africa, UK, USA, and Zimbabwe. Dance music producer, artist, singer, Dj and a voice over artist Panashe Chamboko, also known as Master Shekkor born in Harare Zimbabwe discovered his love for House Music after moving to Namibia. Finished Musicology at Winad Music Trust in 2018, attained a certificate in sound engineering at audio academy Zimbabwe in the same year, soon after he travel to South Africa to study Music Production and Sound Engineering He has worked with a variety of artists such as Nolu Madikane on "Uthando Lwakho," DeeVine on "Ingoma," T McCrae on "Pulling You Closer," Wanine Zovitzkey and Matthew Andre on "Embers," as well as Hemina Shah and Taka Mukundu on "Laila Main Laila." One of his biggest accomplishments is working with multi-platinum Grammy-nominated producer Martin Mity Maose, who is based in the USA. He joins us in the studio

With a deep understanding of the craft cultivated through years of assisting her mother, a skilled tailor, Mercy developed a unique perspective and appreciation for garment construction. After completing her education in clothing technologies and bridal wear, she embarked on a journey of self-discovery and professional growth, spending years refining her designs in Zimbabwe before relocating to South Africa in 2008. Despite facing initial challenges, Mercy's tenacity remained unyielding, propelling her to take the leap and establish her own business, Tasmer Designs, in 2017. Through perseverance and dedication, Mercy transformed Tasmer Designs from humble beginnings in a garage into a thriving retail store in Eastleigh, envisioning it as a generational business poised to leave a lasting legacy in the fashion industry.
