Ethan Mullins has spent his entire life in Wayne, a small town 26 miles outside of Norman. He’s also spent his whole life around football. So, when 2011 state championship running back Josh Way broke the school's all-time rushing record, the news got to Mullins quickly. His reaction was more competitive than admiring of the athlete he lived just about a half-mile from. “Maybe one day I can break that,” Mullins said. A little over a decade later, Mullins is 28 yards shy of the all-time Wayne rushing record that’s still held by Way at 5,199 yards. And with seven games left in the regular season, the closest record-holders to him — Wayne head coach Brandon Sharp and Way — both agree he’s bound to break the record.
