 

 

 

The former Sligo Rovers FAI Cup winning captain, Gavin Dykes has urged his former Club to replace John Russell with a manger form England or Scotland that would be able to recruit players from the UK that could help Sligo Rovers survive in the Premier Division.

 

Speaking to the Ocean FM Sports Department Dykes says that Russell’s departure leaves Sligo Rovers in a bad position and that loyalty that Roves Board have shown to the former manager is now coming back to haunt them.

 

Shelbourne yesterday appointed John Russell as their new boss after reaching agreement with Sligo Rovers.They were on the lookout for a new head coach since the departure of Joey O'Brien last month.

 

Russell was first-team manager with Rovers since June 2022, having previously spent three seasons as assistant manager at The Showgrounds.

 

He leaves Sligo sitting bottom of the table with just five wins from 24 this campaign.
