This week is Organ Donor Awareness Week and it's just over two months since Sligo man Aaron Mulligan was killed following a collision in Perth.

Aaron who was in his 30s suffered a devastating brain injury in the road traffic incident and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he sadly passed away on the morning of 'St Patrick's Day.

Doctors at the Royal Perth Hospital kept Aaron alive until his mother, Mairead Mulligan, could travel to Australia to be by his side in his final moments.

Later, in an extraordinary act of generosity, Aaron underwent organ retrieval surgery.

Mairead has been telling our reporter Catherine Gaffney how many lives Aaron has now saved as a result of that decision:
