A Sligo railway campaigner is aghast over revelations that a greenway on the disused railing from Collooney to Bellaghy has been given the green light.

It was confirmed earlier this week that Irish Rail is to lease the lands to allow the greenway to proceed on the line, despite previously stating it couldn't support that proposal.

The prospect of rail being reintroduced on the line remains on the table, according to Irish Rail.

It has sparked major controversy in recent days with opinions divided over whether allowing the greenway project to proceed is a good idea or not.
