Ambulance staff across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal are continuing a 24-hour strike over pay this afternoon, with contingency plans in place for emergency call-outs.

The strike action began this morning and will continue until 8am tomorrow.

It's over a pay dispute, with union workers saying the HSE has failed to follow through on commitments.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin is appealing for workers to end the strike, amid concerns for patient safety.

But speaking from the picket line in Sligo, SIPTU Rep James Cassidy says they are being ignored by the Government:
