It's thought scrapping stamp duty for first time buyers could help more young people in Sligo buy a home. 

Housing Minister James Browne and Taoiseach Micheál Martin support the idea tabled by TD Seamus McGrath.

Sligo Fianna fail Councillor Seamus Kilgannon previously tabled a motion in a similar vein. 

He says more should be done to support people in this region get on the housing ladder:
