Serious safety concerns have been raised over Mitchell Curley Park in Sligo.

A lack of street lighting is said to be preventing the local community from using the amenity in the evenings.

There’s said to be a lot of elderly people in particular living in the area who are afraid to walk in the park as a result.

Some works in the park have been carried out by Sligo County Council but the funding wasn’t enough to cover lighting.

The local authority has pledged to apply for more funding this year.

Sinn Fein Cllr Arthur Gibbons says it’s imperative that the works are carried out once and for all:
