Its claimed many farmers in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal are out of pocket over a reduction in the flat rate of VAT. 

The reduction in last year's budget is estimated to cost Irish farmers €61.5 million this year.

Sinn Feins Agriculture Spokesperson and Sligo Leitrim TD Martin Kenny says this is money that is being taken out of farmers pockets at a time when farmers are struggling financially.

He says with increased input costs this year such as fertiliser and meal, plus the skyrocketing cost of fuel in the last few months, many will struggle to survive in the time ahead:
