Public urged to be vigilant as oil thefts are reported in Geevagh

 

A Sligo Councillor has urged the public to be vigilant and report any concerns they have in relation to the theft of oil.

 

The comments from Councillor Gerard Mullaney come as reports are circulating on social media that home heating oil was allegedly stolen from a tank in Geevagh over the course of recent days.

 

The Fine Gael Councillor says that with the value of oil rocketing at present the contents of such tanks are valuable commodities.

 

He warned that many tanks are not properly secured and as a result more thefts are likely.

 

The Kilmactranny based Councillor is advising the public to purchase only small amount s of oil at present and to stay vigilant and report any suspicious vehicles in their areas
