The owners of the Sonas retirement village in Enniscrone have been told to have a heart.

Just before Christmas, a number of vulnerable and elderly residents were served eviction notices and told they must be out at the beginning of June.

It’s after the homes changed ownership along with the nursing home which is also located there.

Those affected moved to the retirement village in good faith and now have nowhere else to go.

The issue was raised in the Seanad today by Labour Senator Nessa Cosgrove who acknowledged while Sligo County Council do not have the funding to purchase the homes, the Government can and should step in.

Responding, Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage Christopher O’Sullivan asked the owners to have regard for the most vulnerable people in society.
